Product Care

Product Care

Ember & Veil pieces are designed to be meaningful, beautiful, and used often. A little care will help preserve their finish, structure, and appearance over time.

Because many of our products are engraved, layered, assembled by hand, or made with natural materials, care instructions vary by item. Always follow any product-specific guidance included with your order.

Acrylic Products

This includes affirmation mirrors, desk plaques, monitor clips, bookmarks, keychains, suncatchers, and other clear, frosted, white, or mirror acrylic pieces.

How to clean

  • Use a soft microfiber cloth.

  • Wipe gently with light pressure.

  • For fingerprints, use a small amount of mild soap and water on the cloth.

  • Dry immediately with a clean microfiber cloth.

Avoid

  • paper towels

  • rough fabric

  • abrasive cleaners

  • ammonia-based glass cleaner

  • alcohol

  • acetone

  • bleach

  • scrubbing pads

  • excessive pressure

These products can scratch, cloud, or lose their finish when cleaned with harsh materials.

Mirror acrylic

Mirror acrylic has a reflective surface that should be treated more gently than glass.

Do not:

  • use standard glass cleaner

  • scrape the surface

  • stack items directly against the mirrored face

  • store it where metal or jewelry can repeatedly rub against it

Layered acrylic

For products made from more than one acrylic layer:

  • lift from the base rather than pulling on decorative accents

  • avoid bending

  • keep away from high heat

  • do not soak

  • do not place in a dishwasher

Engraved Wood

This includes ritual trays, wall hangings, plaques, bookmarks, ornaments, and other maple, oak, walnut, or wood-veneer products.

How to clean

  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth.

  • For light marks, use a slightly damp cloth.

  • Dry immediately.

  • Wipe in the direction of the wood grain when possible.

Avoid

  • soaking

  • dishwashers

  • prolonged moisture

  • harsh cleaners

  • direct heat

  • strong sunlight

  • leaving wet items on the surface

Wood may naturally deepen or change tone over time. This is part of the character of the material.

Engraved trays

Unless the product listing specifically states otherwise, engraved ritual trays are decorative and are not intended for food preparation or dishwasher use.

To protect the surface:

  • place candles in a holder

  • wipe away wax promptly

  • avoid placing hot vessels directly on the wood

  • do not allow oils, perfume, or water to pool on the tray

Suncatchers

Acrylic suncatchers and crystal-prism pieces are delicate décor items.

Hanging

  • Hang securely using the included chain, hook, or hardware.

  • Confirm that the hook is appropriate for the weight of the piece.

  • Keep away from areas where it may be struck by doors, curtains, or people.

  • Do not hang directly over beds, cribs, or fragile surfaces.

Cleaning

  • Dust gently with a microfiber cloth.

  • Clean the prism with a soft, lint-free cloth.

  • Avoid twisting or pulling the chain.

Sun exposure

Suncatchers are designed to catch light, but prolonged intense heat or continuous direct outdoor exposure may affect acrylic, adhesive, or hardware over time.

Unless stated otherwise, Ember & Veil suncatchers are intended for indoor use.

Candles

Always follow the safety label included with your candle.

Before each burn

  • Trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch.

  • Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

  • Remove nearby flammable items.

  • Keep away from drafts.

While burning

  • Never leave a candle unattended.

  • Keep away from children and pets.

  • Do not move the candle while the wax is hot.

  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.

  • Allow the candle to burn long enough for the wax to melt evenly across the surface when possible.

Burn time

Do not burn for longer than the recommended time shown on the candle label.

Discontinue use when approximately ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.

Candle appearance

Hand-poured candles may develop:

  • slight frosting

  • small air pockets

  • surface texture

  • color variation

  • minor changes after burning

These are common with natural waxes and do not necessarily indicate a defect.

Crystals and Natural Stones

Crystals are natural materials and may vary in color, clarity, shape, markings, and texture.

Cleaning

Use a soft, dry cloth.

Only use water if you know the specific stone is water-safe. Some crystals can discolor, weaken, dissolve, or become damaged when exposed to moisture.

When uncertain, keep the crystal dry.

Avoid

  • chemical cleaners

  • perfume

  • oils

  • prolonged direct sunlight

  • saltwater

  • extreme temperature changes

  • dropping onto hard surfaces

Some crystals can fade in strong sunlight or chip if struck.

Spiritual use

Crystals are offered as symbolic and reflective objects. They are not medical devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition.

Jewelry, Chains, and Gold-Toned Hardware

This includes key rings, chains, clasps, charms, bookmarks, necklace components, and decorative hardware.

To reduce tarnishing

  • Keep dry.

  • Avoid perfume, lotion, hairspray, and cleaning products.

  • Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising.

  • Store in a dry pouch or box.

  • Wipe gently after handling.

Natural aging

Brass, plated metal, and gold-toned hardware may darken or develop patina over time.

This is a normal reaction to air, moisture, skin oils, and the environment.

Keychains

Keychains are made for everyday use, but frequent impact may eventually affect acrylic, wood, hardware, or layered components.

To extend their life:

  • avoid attaching heavy objects

  • do not pull by decorative charms

  • keep away from sharp metal edges

  • avoid prolonged moisture

  • store gently when not in use

Inspect hardware periodically and tighten or reposition rings if needed.

Books and Journals

Storage

  • Keep in a dry environment.

  • Avoid prolonged sunlight.

  • Store upright or flat.

  • Keep away from moisture, oils, and heat.

Handling

  • Use clean, dry hands.

  • Avoid folding covers backward.

  • Do not force the spine flat.

  • Use bookmarks rather than folding page corners when possible.

Signed and inscribed copies

Ink may transfer or smudge if rubbed immediately after signing. Allow signed pages to remain open briefly if the inscription appears fresh.

Printed Guides and Cards

Printed materials

  • Keep away from moisture.

  • Store flat.

  • Avoid excessive bending.

  • Use clean hands.

  • Keep away from direct sunlight to reduce fading.

Digital printables

Print quality depends on:

  • printer settings

  • paper type

  • ink quality

  • screen calibration

For best results, use high-quality paper and print at actual size or 100%, unless the product instructions say otherwise.

Gift Boxes and Packaging

Gift packaging is designed for presentation and protection.

To preserve it:

  • keep dry

  • avoid crushing

  • store away from heat and humidity

  • remove candles or crystals before long-term storage

  • do not place heavy objects on top

Dried flowers and botanical accents are decorative and naturally delicate. Some shedding is normal.

Fabric Pouches and Ribbon

Fabric pouches

  • Spot clean only unless the care label states otherwise.

  • Air dry.

  • Do not bleach.

  • Avoid ironing over printed or metallic details.

Ribbon

Ribbon may wrinkle during shipping.

To smooth it:

  • lay flat under a light object

  • gently steam from a distance if the material allows

  • avoid direct high heat

Wall Hangings

Installation

Use hardware suitable for:

  • the product weight

  • your wall material

  • the hanging location

Ember & Veil is not responsible for damage caused by improper installation or unsuitable hardware.

Care

  • Dust gently.

  • Avoid moisture.

  • Keep away from direct heat.

  • Do not pull decorative chains or hanging pieces.

  • Confirm periodically that the hardware remains secure.

Product Variation

Many Ember & Veil products are handmade or made from natural materials.

You may notice subtle variation in:

  • wood grain

  • engraving depth

  • acrylic reflection

  • crystal shape

  • color tone

  • metallic finish

  • flower placement

  • hand assembly

These differences are part of the character of the piece and are not considered defects.

When to Stop Using an Item

Discontinue use if a product becomes:

  • cracked

  • sharply chipped

  • structurally loose

  • significantly warped

  • unstable

  • damaged near electrical or candle components

  • unsafe to hang or handle

Keep small parts, crystals, hardware, and decorative items away from children and pets.
